I am trying to get a feel for whether a 2006 FS 224 with a 5.0L 270HP duoprop would be underpowered for use with 6-8 people on the boat (with half being kids aged 8-14 and 2-3 of those in the water on a tube). I've found a boat I really like, but have concerns about whether this has enough power. It appears to be the engine most popularly sold with this boat. Do you have this boat or one with this engine? What has the performance been like? Thanks much.

Yes, I think you'll most likely see most people tell you to find a 5.7 for a boat that large.

It'll still probably do what you want and you'll be okay with it. You'll just yearn for more power. Probably for just tubing you won't miss the 5.7 too much.

I have a Funship 224 (5.0 volvo penta) without the duoprop. I usually have 4-8 people on the boat. I never had an issue. There always seems to be more than enough power.

I've got a '99 234 w/ a 280 hp 5.7Gsi SX (Single prop). I think weight/hp-wise it's pretty close to the 224 w/ 5.0. I have no power issues unless I get really loaded down with adults (ie, 1500+ lbs). We had 10 (4 adults, 6 kids ages 10-14) down in the keys last week with no issues at all. My guess is you would be fine for what you've described.

I have a '02 FS 214 and test drove the 5.0 duoprop. I opted for the 5.7 with a single prop - came out to approx the same price and I figured I could always upgrade to a duoprop later if I wanted to.
Plus, I'd rather ding a single prop in shallow sections of a river instead of duoprops.....

I just got one with the 5.0. It seems to have plenty of power.
