Post subject:  Swim Platform Mat
Anyone have an aftermarket swim platform mat? I really like the one that looks like teak, but it's crazy expensive. I also thought about a rubber one, but again the factory one is crazy expensive. Anywhere to get one aftermarket? Or, do you have thoughts on the factory ones that make them worth the cost?

I to looked into the idea of aftermarket, but did not find anythinf that did not have to be modified , Based on that the cheapest option i found was to purchase a roll of thin contoured rubber , then purchase some clear sticky film to trace out the shape on the boat and tranfer to the rubber mat . A samll amount of glue later and it worked a treat . A bit of work but worth it in the end.

I looked at the black rubber mat but i was worried it would get hot as asphalt down here in the southern sun. :shock:

I have considered it also, but based on the comments in the attached forum, I'm thinking of leaving it as the stock fiberglass:

Somebody her linked us to a really cool mat material (Cap'n Morgan?) I can't seem to find the thread though. It was available in all kinds of colours and if I remember properly even different patterns.

I have the factory rubber mat...it gets hot as a mofo if you are not constantly keeping it wet.

Yep. That would be Gator Grip. He will send you samples for free so you pick the color you like best. It's nice stuff. The lighter colors are not anywhere near as hot as the black.

That's the stuff I was thinking about! But... now that I read the website better I am not sure I like the adhesion method. You can't stick it directly to existing nonskid and you have to go over to a smooth area so it fully seals and no water gets below the surface which might cause it to lift. Sounds like you need to plan out exactly where this stuff will go before spending the $$.

Same as the snap in mats FW sells with their boats, water and dirt gets under them and the swim platform looks like hell underneath the mat when removed. You could just add snaps to these for much less than a factory mat, and not worry about the adhesion method.

I haven't seen this product personally but from what i read it seems to have a sticky back all over it and you remove a protective coating paper that reveals the "sticky"... I agree you could just add snaps but water could still degrade the protective coating which would allow the mat to stick and collect sand/dirt. Think of those post-it notes after they have been stuck to something for awhile! I wish they sold this product without the adhesive so people could mount it as they wish. And it need to come in a wider format like 8 foot so it will cover a whole swimplatform without splices. A good product but needs to taken to the next generation.... I imagine this is a product developed for something else that this guy is marketing to us boaters....Anybody seen something similar in another application? I suspect this is a flooring product used to protect people or kids in say like MCDonald's play area or ?????

We bought a '07 244 in June 07. The '08 models came out with the thick grey mats and my wife wanted one to help stop the kids from slipping. Had the dealer add it. We love it and it does help with slippage. Can get hot but just need to throw some water on it and usually when we are using the boat we have acces to water :lol:
