Just took delivery of a 2003 214 Funship with a Merc 5.0 MPI Alpha engine and drive with 1.62 gear ratio. Prior to my trial run the dealer exchanged the original 14.5 x 19p prop with a 14.25 x 21. In calm water the engine will spin up to 4900-5000 RPM with 3 adults and a half tank of fuel. Fair enough, but I'm concerned that the 21 pitch prop will be too much when I add a few more people or run the boat with less trim in rough water.

Does anybody have experience with a FS 214 5.0 MPI and a 14.5 x 19 prop? If you do at what speed and RPM do you cruise. We rarely go over 30 mph let alone WOT. Seems to me that the 14.5 x 19 would be a better prop fo us.

The dealer since gave me a 14.5x19 and this is appears to be the right prop for the boat for our use. Better hole shot and seemingly no loss in top end. The 21 must have been slipping more than the 19. Bottom line is, problem solved. :)
