I have a 2005 Funship 234 with a 5.7 Gi/DP 280 hp engine. I bought it with 50 hours on the motor and when I first took it out, at 30 mph it started to jump. I would back it down and it stopped. The dealer said it was the computer and switched it out with another he had. It works now but I can't get over 40 m.p.h because the rpm's are at 5500 and I am scared to go any higher. Any suggestions of what might be wrong?

What prop is on the boat? Sounds like someone put something too small a pitch on there

Are you measuring the speed with the speedo (notoriously inaccurate) or a GPS?

If it has F5's and doing 5500 rpm and only 40mph by the GPS, then all that's left is either excessive drag from somewhere (maybe a dumba$$ question on my part, but have you tried trimming up a bit?) or the leg ratio may be wrong? Only other thing I can think of is the props may have been badly repaired at some time.
