My son has a 1988 Sundowner 215 that will need new drivers and passenger
seats in the near future. Has anyone found a reasonable and good replacement
seat?? Thank you, John :?:

Get ready for some sticker shock:

If the seats aren't "too" bad of shape, ya might be able to have them recovered by a shop.

I have used this type of seat in smaller boats, but our seats are longer, wider and
taller. I was hoping someone had a source for the larger type of seat. I will probably
buy a commercial sewing machine and take the seats completely apart and cut out all the
material and sew up new covers. Thank you, John :?

I would switch the drivers side to a swivel bucket seat system and the passenger just a new one lounge. Make sure it has the storage compartment under it or it's a big waste of space. It's where I keep all my maintenance supplies, very handy.

My son John has the boat of his dreams, now we need to bring the
seats up to their former glory. The rest of the interior and the exterior
cleaned up very nicely. We just need to re-do the seats and carpet.
Father John, but not senior :P

I am in the process of restoring a 1987 195 myself, and I will definitely be shelling out the $$ for the correct seat covers. Really great boats for their are. My kids love it!

I have just finished a 2 year restoration of a 1992 Sundowner 225 including all new interior, rebuilt OMC 5.8 litre engine and drive. For anyone looking for seats I can highly recommend Veada Industries located in New Paris, Indiana, [www.veada.com]. Not only do they sell seats in whatever color combination you want, they also sell bulk vinyl etc. allowing you to match other interior components perfectly. I am Canadian and live north of Toronto so I had them ship my seats to Buffalo (no charge) and I picked them up from there. I will be posting a series of photos of my project on a board at my Pinterest site see [http://pinterest.com/rickcrouch/boat-restoration/]. This is my second Four Winns Sundowner as I previously owed a 1989 Sundowner 205. When lauching my 225 last week, the ramp attendant asked me if it was a "new" boat it looks that good. I looked at the new 215 and 235 models at the Toronto boat show last winter and I don't think I would do an even trade for mine. I am about 5'11" and I could neither sit up or stretch out in the new models. What was the designer thinking?

Thanks for the reply. Your SD looks great! Did you have it painted? Looks fantastic! Those seats look good, a lot better than other replacement seats I have seen online. Thanks for the info!

I just buffed the gelcoat on my boat using an orbital buffer and lot's of heavy oxidation remover then finished with Meguiars Boat Polish which really brought to a great shine and allegedly nourishes the gelcoat.
