I am in the process of transferring a 1995 Sundowner 205 but it does not currently have a trailer. Are there any special requirements I need to look for when purchasing a trailer, and/or does anyone know of a good place to get a trailer in the Lewisville, TX area? I've searched online everywhere and I've had a hard time finding anything. Would definitely prefer used if possible. Any help/info/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I know the boat is 20FT and its a 8'4" beam.

If you get a single axle try to find one with a 5200 lb capacity axle, 6 lug hubs and 12" brakes. I think that's what the OE trailers were specified as. Of course you could get a tandem as well but I know that those boats did have the option of a single axle. A 5 lug 3500 lb axle on a single would be cutting it too close for that size boat.

If it's any help, based on Four Winns UK dealer supplied trailers:

1999 225; 4 wheel trailer; 165 xx 13 tyres were too small in my opinion

2004 245; 4 wheel trailer, 3,000 kg capacity, 175x13 wheels, too small a trailer, it should have had the 3,500 kg one. Imoossible to get the weight distribution right by moving the axles ( either too much nose weight , or too little; virtually none at all !)

If you can get a galvanized trailer, they are nearly corrosion proof and will need little maintenance in the worst conditions. The fittings (U-Bolts, nuts etc) can rust but if you spray them with Corrosion X or Boeshield T-9 the will be rust free for a long time.
I would not bother with a painted boat trailer. The boat itself is enough work, who needs to worry about the trailer rotting. Even in fresh water.
There is a lot of debate about disc vs drums and despite the bad press and mis-information about drum brakes, they can be made to last a long time and work well with a little creative re-engineering.
