the old cluster I;m told was bad. I purchased the "newer style cluster" that has 2 plugs.I was told that it would work after changing the pins to match the old one. The colors aren't the same. I need to know what the engine side 8 wires are for and their color. I also need the guage side colors and what each wire does? The fuel guage is pink but if I put pin pink to pin pink get nothing. if I move engine side pink to next hole over the fuel guage works, well it moves not sure if its correct. A complete electrical schematic would be the ticket. I've got the four wins one but 1996 only has "sport boat diagram and its not the wiring that's in my boat. The electrical is all stock,no work,changes ect. the 99 diagram is closer but not a 100% match. 1996 245 sundowner with 5.8 fi Volvo penta is what I have and that's what I need the complete wire schematic. Thanks for any help. ps I have the complete omc 5 vol series repair manuals and they are no help for dash wiring. I also know the standard marine wire colors and just not working for me. thanks

From what I ca gather, there were 3 types of VDO clusters ( If I'm wrong, please feel fee to correct me !).

Let's call them:
Early
Middle (ca 1998 to 1999)
and
Late (2000 onwards)

I have a VDO manual for the 2000 cluster, it indicates a single connector. The only difference in functionality to the 1999 one was a sea water temperatrure indicator. Is the wiring diagram any use to you ?
