Hello All, after looking into some old posts on iFourWinns and also some Ford Mustang forums (1993 OMC 5.0 EFI) I have now added purchasing a new TPS to my list of goodies to buy in the spring. Has anyone replaced this on thier boats? From what I heard, pre-'94 fords had a recall on there TPS due to a large fluctuation on its idle rpms that often results in stalling (guilty here). It has been deemed the "Surge Demon" and its a soul breaker.

My question today is: Does anyone think there is a difference in an OMC (marine) TPS (~$40-$75), and the regular Ford (automotive) TPS (~$15)?

Its not that I'm cheap, but i'm cheap...

Thanks for the info,
Corey

If you buy the marine one you will see the Ford part number on it.

So, yes. Be cheap.

I replaced my TPS on a 95 mustang that wasn't idling without the ac on and it worked great! Good luck on your boat.

As has been discussed elsewhere on here recently, if it doesn't specifically have a big sticker on it that reads, "Ignition rated" or have one of a myriad of SAE, Jxxxx, ANSI, UL, CSA, ABYC ratings or something similar, your boat will blow up, killing you and all your passengers in a terrible, fiery mushroom cloud of death, destruction, and mayhem. Even though the $15 part will have the exact same part number as the $2000 part, including the exact same specifications, you'd best get the $2000 part, since it's been blessed by the pope to not cause any bad things to happen. We all know now that even if you do have a massive fuel leak in your bilge, all those stickers will absorb all energy created that could potentially ignite the fuel so that nothing will happen at all, even in such adverse, stoichiometric A/F ratio conditions
Sorry, couldn't resist... it's Friday evening and I feel fine
