My Sundowner 205, I'm guessing the main floor side channels either side of the fuel tank where the seats mount are foam filled? The front cuddy floor void is. If so is there anyway to check if there is any water in there? & best way to get it out if there is please. Just thought I'd check if its wise to do so |

Yep its all foam under there. I have an '88 H-200 with the same hull different top cap because its a bowrider. The deck rotted and I had the whole thing out, repaired and put back together about 7-8 years ago. Big job. W.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/pes4wf5zt63mx ... n.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds48pon6ov5tz ... 1.jpg?dl=0 Best thing you do is get rid of the carpet, get rid of that glue, inspect the deck, if its solid, re-glass it and then gelcoat it in non skid gelcoat. Seal every hole used to mount the seats. The carpet is what holds in moisture and the rot starts in all the unsealed holes. They also used hundreds of nasty rusty staples to hold the deck down, I glued it with 3M 4200 and used stainless wood screws that were all sealed in then glassed over. |

Superb info thanks My deck is not rotten (though the fuel tank lid is bending a bit), in fact its all very solid. The boat has been dry stored its entire life. I was thinking about glassing the floor at some point, but the carpet is good condition, not bad considering its all original. |

If its going to still be dry stored then you can leave it be. However if it sits outside under a cover in a damp climate I'd get rid of the carpet it you want it to last. The areaa under the back seat once it gets wet will never dry out. That's where it started on mine. I redid all the gas tank supports in mahagony because it's much more rot resistant than the cheap pine they used. |
