Pictures will be uploaded but this thing is clean... hasnt been in the water since 2010, seats are mint, motor looks super clean and dipstick shows nice oil, outdrive looks super clean... Paying a MArine Shop $300 to flush all the fluids and to try and start it... Anything i should know or be aware of as a new owner? STILL TRYING OT FIGURE OUT HOW TO UPLOAD PHOTOS!!

Nice find, not dissimilar to me a few months back when I bought a Sundowner 205 of similar vintage.

Just go through everything if its not been used, was it put away winterized or not? check the electrics out for corrosion on contacts etc Little things like salt corrosion on the window frame poppers or gauges not working is a pain

Do what I did, take it out on the water once you have done the basics, with the view it might not all work. Check the water temps, check the water flow through the manifolds (important) check gears work, no leaks from the transom etc. Be prepared for an emergency ;)

not sure if it was winterized or not. battery was dead... going to have them look it over Nov 3rd 2014 for $300... is that a fair price for a used boat safety inspection, including flushing fluids and oil change... ??? then he said he will advise

I'm not in the US but that does not sound expensive for whats involved. A trained eye may well spot something of concern.

What motor does it have OMC?

I'd have the outdrive removed, uni joints/ splines greased & gimbal bearing inspected.
How old is the fuel and water separator?
Congrats!

The boat looks good, but anything that age needs a complete going over, tune up check the gas tank for water, sediment, remove outdrive check bellows, gimble, ujoints, etc. May need a carb cleaning and rebuild. Boats that sit for a long time will just need these things and then can be fine after that for years.

I hate to break it to you, but the model is called Sundowner not Sundancer.

Sundancer is a name Sea Ray uses.

Welcome! Always glad to see new Sundancer, errrr...Sundowner owners join up. :P My bud has that exact same boat. The only significant problem he has had was the charging system (it doesn't have an alternator, but a voltage regulator thingy, can't think of the correct term right now) but he had it converted to alternator. That little Merc 4 cylinder is a strong runner and fast, but hard to find parts for. Is it the partial closed cooling model? Should have a reservoir tank running along the right side of engine. If so, those are prone to not work and cause a overheat.

Not running since 2010 can be a cause for concern, boats don't like to sit for long periods of time. Fluids, hoses, belts, plugs, greasable stuff should all be checked out. But for a 1000 bucks, if it all checks out, you got a good deal. Again, welcome!

You will also want to go through the hull and check for rot in addition all that's been mentioned. A boat that age if not stored correctly may have rotted floors/stringers/transom. If there are any soft spots in the floor this is the first sign. I would ask the mechanic to take a look at the transom and engine mounts at the very least before you take it for a spin. And if the floor has been replaced already, make sure it wasn't a place new plywood on time to cover up the soft spot kind of thing.

Congrats on the new boat. Even if you have to go through all these things you got a decent deal and can recoup most of that on the trailer alone.

WOW.

Every boat I found when I was looking for $3000 or under had a rotted floor or bad engine if not both.

Good find!

already did some work heres an update... got new safety chains because they were rusted and seized, snapped 4 wheel studs taking the old flat tire off... so im putting all new safety chains on towing and to secure boat to trailer during transportation, 4 new wheel studs, 4 new lug nuts grease all trailer bearings, new bearing buddy bras, got a brand new tire and rim for $35 at a tag sale. All lights work and im registering it this week. Towing it Nov 3rd to a local marine shop and having them check it start to finish and let me know condition. Cross your fingers.... I did have a question on the ball mount for the trailer the design is weird ive towed alot and have never seen a tongue like this before... see if i can get some picture but im not exactly sure how it stays secured to the ball it came without a pin and just a hanging metal cable that i assume had the pin on it... ill post more pictures...
