For those of you who have seen or owned both, is there that much difference between the 225 and 245? We are stepping up from an older style 19' sundowner. We have been in and tried out a 225 and have found one for sale, but we are wondering if we should pass and maybe go to a 245. Aside from having the porta pottie/pumpout on the starbord side, is there a large and noticeable feel/difference in overall size as well as storage.

Just curious. I want to make sure we don't pull the trigger and regret not having purchased the 245. We say a gorgeous 285 with twin 5.0... Man what a boat, but i think that is too much. Lol

I haven't been on a 225 before but we loved our 245. We had the U-wrap seating and the cockpit was very large and could fit lots of people. The cuddy was an ok size.

We upgraded to a newer boat this year and the cockpit is not quite as roomy.

Do you plan to use it for overnighting or mainly as a day boat?

Well, we use the boat mainly for day trips, but we like to do 1 or 2 overnight trips throughout the summer. We do it now with our 195. We find the cuddy is fine from a size perspective, but we only use it for sleeping and storing stuff. It's the cockpit that we find to be the key. Our current setup in the cockpit has the seats back to back, so we like the u-shaped seating for sure.

I mainly don't want to buy a 22 and then hunt for larger in a couple of years.

I've had both; a 1999 225 with Sunsport seating/ 5.7GSi (280 hp) and a 2004 245 with the 5.7GXi ( 320 hp). Both DPS.

Engine access, in particular to the rear of the engine and inner transom , was a lot better on the 245 than it was on the 225; maybe later 225s were better than the earlier ones in that respect

The 245 handled rough water a noticeably better than the 225 did; a combination of longer hull and greater weight I expect. The 225 was marginally faster top end ( if it wasn't a dealer left over stock boat, I'd have had the 8.1 in the 245)

hmm, ok. We just put an offer in on a 225 (with the 5.7gxi). I was hoping there wasn't a large difference between the two boats in terms on handling rougher water (which we get on the great lakes).

Thanks for the info Graham.
