We recently purchased our boat and the engine hatch actuator doesn't exist (previous owner removed it). I just lift the engine hatch up and down, but it is pretty heavy. Simple solution is just to buy a Gas Strut to assist in taking some of the weight off the lift. The question is what length to buy it. I can measure the Extended length when the hatch is open so that is easy. What I can't figure out is the "compressed" length when the hatch is closed. If anyone has a 285 Sundowner and would be kind enough to measure the "fixed" part of the hatch actuator that would be great. Thanks. |

The fixed part of the actuator is 26" the stroke is 18" |
