Lou you are giving me more help than I deserve. Thank you so much!

My original exhaust manifolds rotted out about 5 years ago. The mechanic at the time could not find replacements (not avail anymore) so he custom built his own to fit my engine. I see nothing that resembles anything in the schematic so I will drop him a note and ask where they are (relocated?).

As for disconnecting the hose at the bottom, I could not loosen that, but the hose (removed from the top) bent down to the bottom of the bilge and a significant amount of water was discharged -- would have been the same had I taken it off at the bib. The fact that it bent down so easily made me think I should replace it now.

I should be able to handle that outdrive instruction. I am two weeks from having the boat go to an indoors shop and having the engine pulled -- and the temps here are not expected to go below 32 during that time, so it's a close call but I will be safe. I worry about corrosion with so many open access points to the engine now -- but I'll leave it to the marine guy to fix that as he's only 2-weeks from working on it.

Happy Holidays!

Wow that's interesting, I wonder just how he custom built manifolds to fit?

https://www.marineengine.com/parts/barr ... direct.htm

now I'm not sure if there is some added complexity if the engine has EFI vs a carb due to bracketry, but I bought Barr Marine manifolds and elbows for my old OMC 5 years ago and they fit and worked fine.

https://www.volvopentastore.com/Exhaust ... _id.777152

keep in mind that if you have an OMC Cobra from 1994-1998, it is the SAME, as a Volvo Penta SX Cobra from the same years. And it looks like they are still available from Volvo.
I got some exhaust parts to do my conversion (I converted from the old one piece V6 manifolds to the newer 2 piece set up where the manifolds & elbows are available in the aftermarket) from VP because the OMC versions were un-available, but no problem getting the same exact parts from Volvo.

This should wrap up this thread. Maybe. Read on.

Here are pix of the journey to repair the transom. First we measured to make sure there was separation. Result is .35"

Then we pulled the engine.

Here's the original bracket that held the engine to transom.

Then the transom wall. With a close up. The fiberglass was a little soft around that VERY SMALL bracket. Water would mostly leak into bilge when in REVERSE

THE REPAIR: A 13-lb steel plate.

And the reassembly begins...

We did run into a problem with the FUEL VAPOR SEPARATOR OMC 3854149 totally corroded -- replacement doesn't exist anymore. Have a look at my BYPASS FUEL VAPOR SEPARATOR thread and offer opinions....PLEASE!

Thanks!

I think at that point I would have taken the boat to a ‘glass shop to re build the transom with new plywood & ‘glass. That’s what I did when the deck rotted on my old ‘88 about 17-18 years ago. The repair is still solid now all these years later.
