I just purchased a 97 sundowner 245. I was wondering how fast the boat should be able to go? I can only get it up to 35 mph. It has the 7.4l volvo motor. Should i be able to here the 4 barrell carb kick in? What is the max rpm on this motor? Thanks

Congrats on your new to you boat.

It looks like depending on your prop setup with the 7.4 engine you should be looking at a top speed of 47 - 54 mph.

I have a 1998 245 Sundowner with the 5.7 GSI Volvo and have seen about 45 - 50 mph on GPS.

Max rpm should be around 4700 - 5000 rpm.

Max RPM range for the 7.4L carbed engine is 4200 to 4600 in stock configuration for 1997 model year. Higher for MPI/EFI engines.

As noted, you really need a GPS to confirm speed. The built in speedometer is not very accurate.

My 245 with the 5.7 Gi is not as fast, but I don't have a GPS so I havn't confirmed top speed yet.
