I just purchased a 97 sundowner 245. I was wondering how fast the boat should be able to go? I can only get it up to 35 mph. It has the 7.4l volvo motor. Should i be able to here the 4 barrell carb kick in? What is the max rpm on this motor? Thanks |

Congrats on your new to you boat. It looks like depending on your prop setup with the 7.4 engine you should be looking at a top speed of 47 - 54 mph. Look here for more information on the 1997 245 Sundowner. http://assets1.fourwinnsmarketing.com/past_product/specs//1997/13%20245%20Sundowner%20(p60-64).pdf I have a 1998 245 Sundowner with the 5.7 GSI Volvo and have seen about 45 - 50 mph on GPS. Max rpm should be around 4700 - 5000 rpm. |

Max RPM range for the 7.4L carbed engine is 4200 to 4600 in stock configuration for 1997 model year. Higher for MPI/EFI engines. |

As noted, you really need a GPS to confirm speed. The built in speedometer is not very accurate. My 245 with the 5.7 Gi is not as fast, but I don't have a GPS so I havn't confirmed top speed yet. |
