Post subject:  1997 Sink Issue

I recently purchased a 1997 FW 205 Sundowner. The boat is amazing. A couple of weeks ago I filled the water tank for the sink in the cuddy. Well I filled the water tank and cannot figure out how to get it to work. I've started the boat, turned the ACCESSORY button on, turned the facet on, and still no water flow. Is there a hidden switch or something that I'm missing? Its really not a big deal if the water pump is bad, I just want to know if I'm missing something. If anyone can help I would really appriciate it. Thanks NEIL

What you have done is exactly how my sink works. Can you hear the pump running when you turn on the Acc. switch? It will run and build pressure and then turn off. When you open the faucet the pump runs because the pressure falls below a certain point. When you close the faucet it reaches the pressure switch setting and turns off.

Mine didn't work when I bought it, the motor was completely rusted. Bought a new one from west marine and it works great. Did you check the fuse?

I haven't checked the fuse yet, but didn't know that the accessory button turns the pump on. When I turned the accessory switch on, I didn't hear the pump running at all. Ill check the fuse and if that isn't it then I'll look into replacing the pump. The manual that came with the boat didn't really describe how to turn the pump on other than saying to turn the switch on, and not knowing that it was the acc switch I was looking all over the place for some other switch. Thanks for you help, I'm off on Friday and am planning on spending the whole day cleaning, and fixing a few things on the boat. Hopefully its as easy as a fuse. THANKS NEIL

Just replaced mine on my 2005 Sundowner with a Shurflo, 3.0 GMP. New one works great, but getting the old one out and putting new one in meant squeezing into an area where a 6'3" guy should never go.

Lesson: always remember to drain the tank yourself before winter storage - don't rely on your very busy mechanic...

I found my pump this weekend while I was cleaning the boat. It doesn't seem to want to turn on at all. The fuse is good, and when I hit the acc. button on the dash nothing happens, no noise nothing. I'm debating on trying and fix it or leave it alone. Honestly I dont know how often I would use the sink in the first place. That and what was stated above, I'm 6'1 and trying to fit where the pump/tank is at would be a huge pain in the a**. If i get a little board and it isn't so hot, Ill try and take a closer look at it. How much did the pump set you back?

I have a 2003 Sundowner S205, and my boat has two switches marked "Fresh Water." One is located near the sink, and I believe the other is located on the switch panel on the dashboard. Have you checked near the sink to see if you might have a separate switch -- in addition to the accessory switch -- to turn the pump on?

I looked by the sink and didn't see any switch. Where by the sink is your switch? The only switch that I could find that didn't have a purpose was the accessory switch on the dash. I looked everywhere.

Picked it up at West Marine for about $150 for the 3.0 GPM model - it comes with a three-year warranty, but I opted for the five-year extended warranty (return it for a replacement any time, no questions asked...), given the cold winters up here in Ontario.

Bought mine at West Marine also. Pretty sure it was the 3.0 gpm model. Wasn't sure how much we'd use it since it didn't work last year. Sure is nice to wash hands, wet down rags for cleaning stuff on the boat. I've thought about adding a transom shower, it is pretty easy, just tap into the outlet of the pump. (Plus drill a hole in the boat for the shower head!)

Here's a portion of my owner's manual. You can't see the switch in the photo, so I placed an arrow pointing toward its approximate location.

I found this in the 1998 owner's manual. Unfortunately, there is no owner's manual available for your year boat on the Four Winns site.

That's an interesting blow up photo; there seems to be a hatch there, my 2004 boat doesn't have one and I never noticed a hatch in the photo in my owners manual. Does your 2003 boat actually have a hatch for a storage locker under the sink? I always thought it was a waste of space not to have one there!

My manual says the same thing but my boat is a Sundowner 205, and my sink is inside the cuddy cab on the left side of the door. I am still clueless on if I have a switch or not.

Yes, Graham, there is a hatch there. Access is a bit clumsy since the helm chair is so close. It is open from that hatch all the way back to the hatch on the deck at the transom where you might store water skis. Under the sink could be used to store the optional stove, but I use it to store a jump start battery. I use the rear storage hatch area for my second anchor and my fenders.

I'm thankful that hatch is there since I needed to change my faucet. I don't know how I could have done it without that hatch.
