Thought I would let out my frustrations. After 4 weeks of owning my first boat (245) my eldest son decides to take it out without my permission and drifts into rocks as he is coming back into the marina to berth. I took my boys out (including my eldest) the following day for a bit of R & R and noticed the whole boat and steering vibrating. It was then that my son decided to tell me what happened. Not too sure what the damage is, but I spoke to my Four Winns dealer who thinks it might be the prop. Just hope it's nothing too major. Any suggestions from you guys as too what might be causing the vibration. My son is now grounded from taking the boat out for quite some time and guess who's paying for the repairs. |

The skeg and prop(s) are usually the lowest point of the boat in the water. They will have been damaged if the boat contacted rocks. A prop with bent blades will certainly cause vibrations in the boat and steering. The bent / damaged skeg probably would not. Depending on the speed of impact and the speed of the props at the time, the propshaft might also be bent ( as I found out to my cost a few years ago after my DP outdrive picked up a lobster pot/ steel rope!) ouch. bent prop, but that would be very visable. A big hit may upset the sterndrive alignment which can be a cause of vibrations. might end up an indsurance job |

dont be too rough on the ol boy.....he just a boater in need of direction...and now a job to pay for the fix. |

I agree, if the prop looks good, it is most likely the motor and drive are out of alignment. Ya, dont be too hard on the boy, we all have done simmilar when we where that age! |
