Post subject:  97 205 Sundowner What spark plugs and what motor do I have?

I just bought a 1997 205 Sundowner with a 5.7 GL motor. I want to change out the spark plugs but I'm not sure which ones to buy. I also thought I had a Volvo Penta but I'm not able to find my motor on their website. Their motor numbers look like this : "5.7GSICPLKD" and mine off the motor looks like "572BPLKD" and saids its a OMC . So I don't know if the motor was replaced or what.

If I look at the NGK guide it shows the 5.7 GL Penta should take NGKBR6FS as mine is not fuel injection. http://marineengineparts.com/17%20inboa ... 91-121.pdf

I bought the NGKBR6FS but not sure if those are the right ones. Can anyone help?

I have the same year boat. At that time it was a joint venture between OMC and Volvo Penta.
Here's a link to indentify what all the characters mean: http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopenta/na ... _name.aspx

5.7L = 350 cubic inches
G = GM block
L= low output (carbureted)
i = fuel injected
Si = superior fuel injected (higher horsepower than just fuel injected)

My engine serial numbers don't match with anything on the V-P website either.

Marine Parts Express has a good parts list that you can use to identify common parts for your particular engine.

Thanks for confirming its actually a Volvo Penta motor. Once I got him again I did see Volvo Penta on the engine plate too. I went with the NGK plugs BPR6FS based on the chart. The boat ran faster with higher RPMs so it seemed to help. I can't say gas usages improved yet. Won't know until I fill it up.
