Hello, I have a 1989 215 sun downer with a 5.8 omc outdrive. My Issue is with a high Idle, when I take off fast then slow down to under 1000rpm it stays at around 1500rpms if you turn off the engine and turn it back on it's at the reg. idle. I had Pro Marine In Port Huron work on it and rebuilt the carb and rode in the boat and still has the same problem. the shift cables are fine and they can't figure it out. When the mechanic was in the boat when it was a high idle he pushes or hit something and that brought it back down. someone has said there is a float that can stick in the carb. but it was rebuilt so I don't no the fix. I bought this boat brand new and it has been a great boat and still is but it hard to pull skiers if the fall then I have to shut down the engine to get back to low Idle. Bought at Spicers in Houghton Lake

If you go online and look up carburator rebuilding you will see that there is rebuilding and REbuilding. A complete rebuild of a 22 year old carburator involves not only replacing worn internal parts but includes installing bushings, checking plugs for leaks, checking for warpage that can cause air leaks, checking throttle plate shafts for excessive wear and many other adjustments. A performance carburator rebuilding shop can work wonders.
