Ok, so I've got an '87 195 with a 3.7L. My boat is...well, kinda beat and I got ahold of one in ALOT better shape but the block is cracked. What kind of job would it be to swap these engines?

Quite easy if you have an overhead hoist.

Do both boats have the exact same engine? If not it will cost a lot to change things that are needed to work with a specific engine. Outdrive ratios are different, exhaust systems, and front engine mounts all can be different. If the engines are not the same it is not a plug n play operation.

I was under the assumption they are the same engine. Even if not, it's not that expensive if you source used parts and do the work yourself. I've 100% completely priced every part needed off craigslist to swap my 2000 H180 to a V8 and it works out to around $2000 not counting selling the 3.0. That does not include a different ratio leg but you can purchase up to a 28 pitch prop for the SX outdrive that will easily make an H180 with a V8 swap do 60 with the 3.0 ratio

Ok well he told me it is an OMC engine...not sure what that would be? I thought that FourWinns mostly had Mercruisers. My engine and outdrive are perfect...well, not perfect but work great. I could put my outdrive in there too if that is possible. Ok, so if it is gonna cost me that much to switch it over...I may as well look at getting another engine in this other boat rather than swapping my 3.7L? Thank you for the input so far...I am new to stern drives

Four Winns have whatever the owner wanted when purchased, they offer all popular brands at the time they are built. I don't know where you live but go offer this guy $1500 and have a good summer boating, not wrenching. http://orlando.craigslist.org/boa/2987538226.html

I live in NC.... This guy is selling it to me for $300. I wasnt sure about the engine because most of the Four Winns I have read about have a Mercruiser set up.
Maybe Ill just transfer the interior over to my boat, pick the best trailer (mine is good shape though), and scrap what's left of the other one.
That's the thing I don't want to spend my summer (or any season) wrenching on the boat...just want to be able to use it

Ok so it is in great shape...ill post some pictures. It has the GM 4.3 OMC with the cobra outdrive. The block is cracked....that is literally the only thing wrong with this boat. Is isnt perfect but for an '87 is in pretty darn good shape. Thinking about getting another engine somewhere or buying a fresh small block?? What do you all think would be best
