Unless you *know* you're going to make use of the E-series features you might be fine with a C-series chartplotter. When I upgraded my C-80 to an E-80 it was because I wanted to use satellite weather. About 9 months later they came out with a weather unit that works with the C-series. The rest of the features, like the 3-D display and PC network connectivity never get used. Yeah, the 3D chart makes for a cool looking demo, but it's largely useless in real life.

It's this opinion that holds me to my C80... and I've found that after 1 season, it's still far more than what I need.

If the boat has no electronics yet - the new Raymarine widescreens or Garmin equipment would be the way I go.

Here's is the nav package that came with the boat. Is this the C80 or the E80? I did not notice the model number before it was put away for winter. Where do you buy your software modules?

That's a C80. Turtle Marine and Hodges Marine are a couple of places where you can buy the Navionics cartography.

That would be the C80. I was definitely bummed that my first chart was screwed up when I came into Solomons Island from the bay in the dark, never having been there before. I was by myself and it would have been really nice to look at the satellite imagery and the ariel photos to conceptualize the waterway and layout in order to determine where I wanted to drop anchor. The features of the E80 probably wouldn't be worth the upgrade for riverboating. I'm not happy with the satellite weather - it usually takes 10 -15 minutes to download data... WAY too long. I'm better off using my cell phone to get doppler radar quick. Nice thing about that is that I can (and do) project my cell phone screen onto the E80.

I agree with the 3D - might be useful in areas like the intercoastal waterways down south when you have to contend with the coral though..

My main reason for asking was price breakdown. I still like to compare deals :)

Liquid - you can pick up charts on ebay, craigslist or WM. They use the navionics chart. I think the C80 uses the gold charts. The first chart I bought on ebay for some reason didn't have the satellite imagery and ariel photos even though it was the platinum plus chart for the E series.

I might look into replacing mine with the new touchscreens. They look pretty sweet.

Is the new model V355 the same as our 338V's? They look the same.

The shrink wrap is coming off within the week and we are hoping to have our 338 in the water 2nd weekend in April. Just had a get together with some dock mates and we are all anxious to get the season started.

A couple pics here to help conceptualize the arch in the down position.

Hi....we are new to the forum and recently purchased a 2000 V338. From the sound of it, everybody here loves the boat. While ours is still in storage, we "visit" frequently! We also cannot wait until we get it in the water. We look forward to learning all sorts of new information from this site.

The 338 you bought is a completely different boat from what owners on this thead have. They only made the model you have for two years, 2000 and 2001. Then dropped it from the line for several reasons, one of which is it did not sell. There is one in our area that has been for sale for 5 years, and is still for sale to my knowledge.

I have always thought it was a unique boat for it's day. Hopefully you got a complete survey, and your's is one of the good ones.

I guess we did not know that. I wonder why the boat did not sell. We really wanted a 328, but those are so hard to find. This one had a bigger cockpit, and the price was right. Our friends owned it and got a divorce. Can anyone tell me why this is a "different" boat?

I cant' address the exact differences between the model years but welcome to the forum. I hope you can get it launched soon.

I'm sure you will enjoy it. Post some pictures when you can.

You can compare for yourself, it will be a good learning experience for you.
2000 338V

2007 338V

Knowone on this board owns a 2000/2001 338 Vista to my knowledge, so first hand experience may be difficult to get here regarding the one you bought.
2007 was the first year for the "new" 338 Vista, no 338 was made from 2002 thru 2006.
The most noticeable difference is that the 00/01 338 were only available with shaft drive inboards, and the current 338's are only available with stern drives. That difference shows
higher fuel consumption & lower speeds throughout the RPM range on the older 338's. I have always liked the boat you bought, and am sure it will be an enjoyable boat for you. Some parts may be a bit more difficult to get, as it is now 10 years old.
