Hi, I am a new owner of 1996 238 Vista. I have a question about the door leading from the cockpit down into the cabin. The top portion of the hatch (that folds in two) does not stay up. From looking in pictures, there used to be a gas shock that held up the hatch. The previous owner must have removed it. Does anyone have a part number for the shock or know where I can get this thing. Its really annoying have the hatch banging around when im out on the lake. Thanks!

I have the same boat. I picked one up at autozone for $25 I just told them how long it was. Same shocks used on hatchbacks.

Thanks, but the issue I am also having is that none of the attachment hardware is there either. I just see the holes where it used to be attached. I think I found the proper replacement shock, but still need to find the right ball stud and the the right attachment for the other end. Could you possibly take a close-up picture of yours? Thank you!

Except that the ball studs are not included, so he would still need the studs. I will take some pictures later and post them for you.

We were all new to it at one time or another. We're just passin' it along to the next batch of fellow idiots that bought boats....

Will get some pics this weekend when I get out there. Unfortunately we keep the boat about a half hour away, so dont make it out there often except on the weekends.

Hi, another question: I havent had a chance to get to the boat yet, could you tell me the distance between the screw holes in the cabin door where the bracket is attached, I am trying to order the proper bracket and dont know how far apart the holes are. Thank you.

Also, could you tell me how thick the ball stud threaded area is that attaches to the frame of the door?
