The newer style VP pumps come as a module with both the low and high pressure pump together so you have to buy both. In theory if your high goes you could only do that but the fact is in short time the low will go.

There fixed it for ya :)

My 1997 Volvo Penta EFI engines have low and high pressure electric fuel pumps that can be serviced individually.

Out on the web, many people have piece-mealed (replaced only the bad one) on their newer style VP fuel pump modules with success. $650-$900 is a hard pill to swallow!

Update, it's not my fuel pump. I have good pressure all around, ran a compression test and they were all good to go. I had a code that I over heated n engine kicked into EPM. No alarms and the gauge didn't indicate I was running hot.

Anyway, still chasing the gremlin. I have a new t-stat, new coil pack (wanted a spare this just jump started), and new plugs, rotor and cap. Headed down to it tomorrow to do some chasing.

Brought in my mechanic to test the pressure of my fuel pump and run a compression test. He's much closer to the boat and it was worth $125 not to buy an $800 fuel pump if I didn't need it.

Sandy really stirred up the bottom here (NJ) and I may have sucked in some mud. I'll know once I remove the t-stat housing.

Stay tuned.

Update...replaced the coil pack which has an ignition control module attached and she fired right up!

Still have to swap out my impeller and t-stat. Was raining heavily when I swapped the coil pack...

Whew, not my fuel pump! :)

Glad it was not the dreaded fuel pump  I am hearing a little bit of whine from mine so I figure it will go some day, hopefully it takes a dive in the driveway.

FYI Gents,V-P wanted $211.00 for the coil pack (with ECM).

Ordered a Mallory from this site: http://www.partman.com/.

Same specs for $139.99. Picked up a spare to keep on board.

Mallory Marine 9-29711 Coil and Module Assembly

Great people to work with.
