Looking for help and advice on toilet for 328 boat. I have had troubles since purchasing boat. After some use, toilet stops working. Had mechanic come to look at it and told me it was too much toilet paper....started not to put paper down toilet but after some use overnight toilet wouldn't work (the vacuum button goes red but it doesn't stop pressurizing and wont flush). Had mechanic come down and told me I was using it wrong that I should always leave switch to on when on boat. Is this normal to leave switch on? worked for awhile then past weekend stopped working :see above problem. Would really like some suggestions from anyone to fix this problem.....tired of not having toilet work....thanks

I always leave mine on, when at the boat, but don't think this is your issue either.. Shooting in the dark, but maybe bad seals or duck valves causing pump to run too long, and it shuts off to keep from over heating, or, maybe a pump going bad? Bad ground or connection somewhere maybe??

Are you using the right TP? Thats propbly not your problem, but the do have maintence kits. I would install one first.

You should be able leave the toilet switch on, I don't leave it on because I have leak within my system which means the pump will run every 30 seconds. My leak is not so bad that I can't flush the toilet. If I understand your description correctly your pump continues to run but it won't flush which may mean you have a large leak. There is a gauge available that is actually quite handy for isolating the leak.

We leave our switch on while we are on the boat, It's always amazing to me how many "boat machanics" pull the old operator error card when they should be trying to find the problem.

Every once and a while ours will stop working - meaning the pump will not shut off and the water will not go anywhere. I've come to the conclusion that this is mostly due to a block in the system, which is caused by not allowing enough water to run (keeping foot pressed down) after flushing a substantial 'load'. The head instructions tell you 3 seconds, which is fine if there is no toilet paper involved - if there is, I wait for it all to disappear, then give it another 3-5 seconds of water.
I've also found that turning off the pump and leaving it for an hour (or a day) and trying again often disintegrates the blockage. In one case that couldn't be fixed, while the tank was being pumped out (and after the tank was empty) I pressed the foot pedal down, and that sucked everything out and cleared the issue. I've never tried a plunger, but should probably get the one mentioned in the link above.
For the record, we leave our pump on always (like the entire summer) and have no vacuum leaks (pump doesn't cycle) or seal leaks (always have water in the bowl). I do need to replace the sanitation hose, and have replaced a 5' section that was imploding on itself due to the vacuum, so you may want to visually inspect your hose.

Once again thanks all for replies. Steve u seem to hit it on the head (pardon the pun), not enough water seemed to be the issue. I throughly checked hoses and they were all in great shape. Thanks so much.
