what about leaving the in the boat w/ trickle charger? i always pulled batteries out in the past but i just read that it is not necessary. sealed batteries are good for below 0 temperatures. what do you think?

Here in Minnesota I used to remove my battery for the winter each year. I too became aware that the battery won't freeze as long as it has an electrical charge. Now I leave it in the boat all winter, but I do remove the negative battery cable so there is no drain on the battery over winter. No battery maintainer is really necessary. Been doing it this way for several years without problems.

All I have ever done is charge them after winterizing the boat and shut off the batt switch so there are no drains. If they don't come up to charge in the spring then you need a new one anyway.
