We went with a 318 over a 298 for the slight increase in room. 328 would have been nice, but I wanted the newer styling. 338 money wasn't in the cards.

Since you are number crunching, I would agree a 328 would be an excellent choice. I would also encourage you to look at as many similar size boats as you can. You may stumble across something that you previously had not considered. That is what happened to us a few years ago. We had considered a 298 or 328, but never found the "right fit" price and condition wise. But we did find something my wife and I liked, was within our budget and offered everything we wanted in a boat. We owned it for just two years, and really enjoyed it. Yes I am a fan of Monty's as well as Four Winns boats. This is worth a look I think, and appears to be in your area. 2002 282CR.

Good luck with whatever you decide upon.

Thx Cap'n - sound advice! Trying to stay the FW path - looked at a lot of boats and based purely on functionality and curb appeal FW "win(ns!)"

You have good taste as we agree the Monty is close second in layout and maybe more so in value. Coincidentally, the same boat is for sale in my town - gonna have a closer look.

After comparing pics, the Admiral is thumbs up for the 328!!! - but i'm still doing the math. Here on LI summer dockage is about $100/ft + winter storage, paint, maintenance, incidental - definitely, don't want to bite off more than I can chew. On the other hand, we live on an Island and in for a penny in for a pound!

We may have located "our" boat - but have some uncertainty. I'm gonna post some pics below.

Thx, nice boat and good price(!) but too far & we're looking for a fresh water to convert to the briney side!!

I agree go bigger you will not regret it. We went from a 248 to a 328 also have 2 young kids. I looked at a 298 and then went on a 328 and there is a lot more room in the cabin and that sold me

Thx acguy - we have two (tall) college age kids and an amazing 8yo who runs the roost! The 328 (over 298, which is still a strong contender) looks like it it can easily accommodate us + friends. We had a 25ft cruiser and it was tightt!! We had baskets hangin everywhere below deck to hold our supplies

The beam alone b/t 298 and 328 makes the difference so noticeable. Were looking at 02 range boats so 318 not in the cards and as for the 338, we're still playing lotto - hey ya never know!!

Here are a couple pics of the 328 were looking at it has always been a fresh water boat.

The engine compartment and motors look clean and well maintained w/ 615 hours and a rebuild w/ around 100 hours. Whats the difference between GSI and GXI?

While the hours on the original motor are higher than we would like - its is fresh water and cosmetically appears to be in VG shape. Based on prior boat, we figure at best we will put 30hr a season – is 600hrs too much? When it comes to engine hours are fresh water hours kinder/gentler – like highway vs. city mile in a car? Anything that you guys with keen eyes see that looks bad?

I am more concerned about the outdrives showing much galvanic corrosion. While I see that is common for salt water drives is this normal for fresh water drives and are these drive suppose to be grey?

Does this appear to be excessive corrosion for a 11yo fresh water boat or is it normal and remediated w/ prep/paint and new anodes?

I would not be concerned with the engine hours, our had 500hrs on them when we bought it at the end of the season in 2012. As far as the drives go I have seen other in our marina do that as well and they had them pulled and repainted. That can be caused by a few things like your neighbours boats have stray currents. We are in fresh water as well .
As fas as the GSi compared to the GXi engine you are getting 20hp extra. I did find that the GXi are a little louder but fixed that by replacing the exhaust bellows to the style with the retainer clip the fastens to the outdrive. You will get a little more mph and a slightly better hole shot with the GXi

I have never seen anywhere near that much corrosion on my drives, I keep my boat in brackish water. I don't see bottom paint on the boat, is that normal for a fresh water?. If you do buy the boat make sure the galvanic isolators are working properly. Grey/silver is the color Volvo uses for their outdrives.

Just zoomed in on the picture of the drives and the anodes look brand new. Maybe they are the wrong material??
