I'm coming into my first season with my 298 and have a long list of items to address...I have a local carpet guy that did replacement cockpit carpet on my old boat.

Are there any superior materials out there? Or more modern looks/patterns? I know light carpet is more likely to show stains but the admiral doesn't like the dark grey that we currently have and it's pretty beat up.

My friends son spilled ketchup and mustard on my new carpet on the old boat. It came right out with a little dish detergent and elbow grease.

Have many of you added snaps to your carpet? Not having snaps is new to me.

Mine doesn't have snaps and the carpet slides and blows up and around.

I don't have snaps and no problems with blowing around. They are pretty heavy and are rubber backed. Check online for an exact replacement before you have a shop make them up. I will need replacements soon myself the rubber is getting pretty bad and falling off.

I ordered snapincarpet.com. Great people to work with and the new carpet made a huge difference in our boat. They already had a template for mine. I did not use the snaps they sent and no problems after 2 years.

I used snapincarpets.com as well and it was great on my last boat. On the current boat we don't have the carpet down, just the bare fiberglass. A lot easier to clean up after the little ones.

When I needed new carpet several years ago I ordered some Marine Tuft, used the old carpet as a pattern, and found someone with a carpet binding machine for the edges.

Much better, long term, than the manufacturer's rubber backed carpet.

Mine is not fastened down, the area at the helm probably should be but it's not much of an issue.

We used a small local company and provided the template. It was much more reasonable. We choose an AquaMat carpet which avoids the whole black rubber sticking to the deck.

We opted for no snaps. Our experience is that without the carpet down, they are tough to step on. We know they can always be added. Only the smallest runner slightly rises when we are at full throttle but that rarely happens.

We replaced ours with common house carpet and it has worked out great, it's a beige with a raised wave pattern. Since there is no backing, water that runs under it (when a window leaks) dries quickly. We had the entire cockpit (except the helm) made in one piece, instead of the 3 that were there from the factory. It's also been made to fit exact and doesn't move a bit. I see no reason for the marine carpet, at least not in a covered boat such as ours.

We did the same with our Larson - got some basic Berber carpet, took the old boat carpets and the new Berber piece to our local canvas shop - they cut and bound it. We didn't put a backing on it, either, which I think probably helped with draining/drying it when it got wet (plus no chance of getting that nasty black stuff on the flooring!).

At the end of last season, I replaced my snap in carpet with Aquamat backing from corinthian-marine -carpet.com.
They have a number of patterns on file, or you can send them a template. In my case, they sent me to a authorized dealer in my area that took care of everything.
They have a good selection of colors/patterns on their website, and they will send you free samples. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

I went with the Snapincarpets.com. Very easy company to work with. They already had a template for my boat so I didn't have to worry about measuring and mailing something into them. It was about $600. I went with the Pebble. It has the sunbrella bindings. I'm optimistic they work out. Now I have to get them in the boat!

It also came with two pieces for the steps going down into the cabin.

Does anyone have any experience removing the current adhered carpet on the steps and replacing them with new ones?
