Hello

I am consistently burning upto a third more fuel on the port engine. I don't trust my gauges completely but I run the RPM gauges evenly. I rely mostly on the sound of the engines being the same and an even rooster tail/wake from the drives.

Any similar experiences?

That sounds like way too much of a difference. As a diagnostic tool, I would see if both engines reach the same RPM at Wide Open Throttle.

Also, is there any chance that the one has a damaged prop?

On my SmartTach, my port burns .3 gal/hr more than my starboard motor. Has for the two years I've had the boat.

How are the shutoff valves set on the fuel lines. Port on, Stb on, center one off. If the center is open it is possiable it's drawing from both tanks

This is what I would think the issue is because that is too much of a difference.

That was my experiences.. When I set my valves up to draw from both, it always seems to draw from one more than the other. So, I just leave it set to draw port to port, and starboard to starboard..

I would not trust the analog guages for exact numbers. I installed 2 fuel flow sensors that are NMEA2K and use my GPS for better, GPH and MPG. As to RPMs, the boat came with both a digital read out and analog and the digital read out is a lot better to fine tune it.

It is normal for one engine to burn more than another. One third is a little high.

I would expect that two engines performing the same amount of work would run within 5% on fuel. 10-15% at the very most.

I have been wondering if those fuel flow sensors would work with a Carbureted engine. I would think they would surge up and down as the float valve bounces around, but would it keep a good running total to be able to compute gph and mpg?
