It seems that each year our ac unit gets a little louder, it still works but it may be time to replace. I believe the compressor is the older piston style compressor, so I'm looking for some feedback on replacement units.
currently have 12kbtu, but looking to upgrade to 16K. Might have found a deal on a 16K Stowaway turbo.
Anybody have any feedback?

It may be cheaper to just replace your compressor. It is a rotary compressor

I did months of research and even asked around at boat shows before I purchased my AC unit. MarinAire units are top of the line 410a heat pumps.

Let me put it to you this way, my AC unit is inside my cuddy currently not enclosed (still, I know... whatever) and I can easily watch TV and goto sleep with it running 5ft from my head. It's QUIET.

If I can I stop spending money on girls for a month I'll have the unit built up and enclosed in the cuddy. You won't even hear it.

Unit was compatible with the existing wiring in the boat and used the same display/control that was installed. A lot of improvements went into the redesign such as the switch to a plastic condensate pan, minimal condensation trap, multiple condensation drain location options, same/less current draw vs. the 12K unit I replaced... etc. I sold my working 12K unit on ebay which cut the new unit cost installation in half. We added return air grill area as FW didn't have enough for even the 12K unit and I also added a discharge vent in the salon forward of the sofa under the step the leads to the v berth. I was extremely happy with the end result. Plenty of cold air and no short cycling issues.

It's been a little while since I've been on here, but just wanted to post my solution.
Ended up finding the replacement compressor on e-bay, still in box for $250.00
A good friend of mine works for carrier and came out to the dock to swap it out. Ended up costing me a $100 bar bill later that day, but huge success.
Admiral came down stairs and asked if it was running, so quiet now. Can't believe I waited so long. Cleaned the condenser out while we had it out.
Cold and quiet!! The entire process took about 1 1/2 hrs. + 3 hrs at the bar.
Thanks for everyone's feedback. Figure it will last until the next upgrade.... can I say Form 400s
