Bow thruster on a 258?

I noticed a lot of the boats over 25 feet had bow thrusters at the boat show this year. Four Winns had a 278 with one, I think around $7,000 option from the factory. They are getting more and more common and putting them on smaller and smaller boats.
It sure would come in handy for when the current and wind pick up trying to back into our slip and we start drifting into the boat next to us. My resolution this year will be to put fenders on that side. :D

I can buy a lot of fenders for $7000

It's on the list for us as well (on our 278). The bow does what it wants in the winds we have here, you can come in perfectly to the berth and get a mid/ stern line on, only for the bow to be pushed 6-8 feet off by the wind.

Sounds similar to me!

This won't be a $7k installation though, even if I were to count $100 per hour labor. I'll keep count though.

Removed the base of the table today and peeked in. Under the mount it is like 16" down the the V. Fuether back, slightly more. There are traces of standing water (leakge in anchor box, nowadays sorted) and about 1/8" at the very bottom that needed drying out. Wood is crisp and dry, no worries there. Likely I will drill a hole behind the shower sump to see if there is more water in the forward bilge that hasnt drained all the way back to the engine room (which is bone dry).

Back on topic: Am starting the storage and bow thruster project now with opening up this space for access. Feels weird putting the saw to the floor but I have a plan...

Haddock, I found water in this same spot and finally traced it to a leaking bow eye. Had the wife drive while I searched and watched as a little water came in with each wave. Was real easy to reseal but took a while to find

I only fixed the anchor box leak mid through last season - but once opened up, it will be much easier to spot and find leaks! Will check the bow eye, wouldn't surprise me if it wept a little. Thanks for the tip.

btw my mistake the new model is a 275 not 278.
I also have the same issue backing in perfect and a gust comes along and takes the bow away from the dock, of course. It happened once and took us all the way to the back because the the boat next to us wasn't there. Wasn't easy getting it corrected. I now keep a pole in hand and grab the dock as soon as I can as well as a bow line to toss to whoever on the dock if I miss.

The OP's issue is much different but all would be much easier and less stressful with a bow thruster. And relieving stress is what boating is about.

Also, for a temporary solution to the anchor locker leak I used some white shrink wrap tape on the anchor door to get me through the season. Didn't look great but wasn't horrible.
