While scuba diving we have seen anchors that have been lost to the bottom of the sea as much as 150 years ago. I'm sure the captains would have appreciated a way to get their anchors back. Attaching a trip line to the back of the anchor would give you another chance to retrieve a stuck anchor, whether you have enough line to come all the way back to the boat or attach a bouy to it. Another option might be to attach a large clip-on ring to a rope and use your dinghy or another boat to pull the ring down to the shank of the anchor, then retrieve the anchor.

Trip line is a really good idea as well as an anchor marker in more populated anchorages. Saves your rode from the guy that cuts across your bow not thinking anything about it. I had to cut a Danforth loose north of Hilton Beach (Whiskey Rock, Western North Channel) which was hopelessly caught in rocks about 30' down. Trip line would probably have saved it. We've anchored overnight many times all over the N.C. and never had a problem since as we usually select anchorages that are very sheltered and consequently have very silty/mucky bottoms. Also, as it turns out, we never anchor in more than 10-12' of water. Our Bruce with 15' of chain has never budged. Best wishes with the new anchor...it looks awesome.

To follow up with my original post, I installed the new anchor and it fits perfect with no modifications required.

As an added bonus the Rocna self launches perfectly. The Bruce required a shove to start moving off of the roller.

As for the looks, the anchor has been sitting in our kitchen since February and I started having doubts that it was going to look good on the front of the boat. Boy was I wrong, to my surprise it actually looks really good up there. On a site note, it also works very well as a banana hanger.

Now to test the holding power.
