They both worked fine - until after I had crawled around the engine compartment cleaning. Not 100% certain it was me, but it makes sense that I nudged something or other while I was in there. Maybe not, though.

Anywho, now at slow speeds and after the engine is warm, the tach jumps from a low point, the actual tach, up to about 3k, constantly pinging back and forth. When I get up to speed and the engine is above 3k, it works fine. Also the depth finder, when going slow and shallow, will be reading correctly between 5-12', depending where in the channel I am) then intermittently drop it's reading to between 1-2 feet and the shallow alarm chimes. It does not happen at cruising speed, generally in much deeper water. All other gauges work fine.

I'm thinking maybe a ground issue? Did I kick something when in the engine compartment?

If you could a little more info about the boat, it may help. Year, engine, etc.

I had a similar issue with my tach and traced it back to the coil pack. Not saying your tach issue is the same, but my coil started acting up and when I eventually replaced it, my tach straightened out.

Pull the fuse panel at the helm. My experience was that the wires were ziptied very tightly and i had a few ground wires slip off the very bottom plugs of the fuse panel.

2001, 5.7.

Engine is running great, but I'll take a look at both the coil pack and the fuse panel for loose wires.
