Hi folks,

My new boat, a 2007 V278 is sleeping at the marina and I'm planning on replacing the Fireboy extinguisher in the engine bay due to corrosion. I forgot to take down the model # when cleaning it up in the fall. Does anyone know what the replacement Fireboy model# is or perhaps make a recommendation? I do not know what the volume of space is in the engine bay.

Thanks.

You should be able to come up with a rough number as to how big your engine compartment is. Then go with the next size bigger bottle.

I can check on the Fireboy unit fitted to my 2009 278 Vista this weekend. What has corroded on yours? All that's corroded on mine is the protective guard over the sensor bulb.... the bilge on mine was rather wet for a few years.

That would be fantastic, thank you!

The outer shell casing towards the base end is showing severe corrosion.

I checked mine today. Unfortunately, all the letters on the label indicating the model type have disappeared ! Sorry !

The cylinder and discharge assembly is about 16" high, the diameter is about 5". So it has to be a CG2 175 or 200 ( same hardware, different fill weigh at 5.1 and 5.9 lbs respectively).

I can't help regarding the size of the bottle --- but the website for sea-fire is www.sea-fire.com and their main phone number is 410-687-5500. A few years ago I needed to replace mine and they had some very economical replacement ideas. If I remember correctly they sent me a drop-in, bolt-in, replacement that was not current stock -- so it "only" had a shorter year warranty than usual --- but it only cost me a third of what a new one would have cost. They were absolutely outstanding to do business with. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks Graham R, that's very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the lead!

To put a book-end on this thread (in case someone searches for this info): Four Winns specifies a 200 cu/ft Fireboy model for the V278.
