Hi all
Now boat is in water (first day ! ) first of I'm sure many rookie questions
I have hot and cold running water in galley and swim platform shower , but nothing at all in bathroom
Am I missing something obvious?
Any clues on what to look for before I bother the engineer?

If you have attached a city water connection to your boat, I'd want to check and make sure you are not filling your boat like a bathtub if you happen to have a problem with your hot/cold water line running to your head sink. Even if not using your city water connection (assuming your boat has one) you could also potentially be running water into your bilge if there happens to be an issue with the lines to your head sink and you have water in your fresh water tank and your fresh water pump is on. But you should hear that fresh water pump running.

Regardless though, first check to make sure that head tap is not leaking water into your bilge.

Thanks...not connected to city water currently. only what the engineer put in the fresh water tank a week ago
Boat has had water in that tank for at least, a week with no water running into bilge thank goodness, I only had the chance to try the water today to discover there is nada coming from the head sink taps....

Clearly it's not something I'm doing wrong then,(valve I haven't opened for example) and there is actually an issue?
I do hear the fresh water pump running , and as I say swim platform shower and galley sink both fine

Lets start on the simple things first! Have you cleaned the screen to the faucet?

If the screen is clean, than I would look for a clog in the line. Do you have hot water on the boat? if so, are you getting hot water flow in the head?

not entirely sure what you mean by that sorry ! is a faucet a Tap ? (Im also a brit ! )

NO water at all in the head sink , hot or cold
This is all pretty new to me , but I'm pretty good on Aircraft ( mind you we don't have much water in there LOL )

yes, the tap.

Your faucet is also your shower head. The valves turn the water on, you might have to push a lever on the faucet to actually let the water out.

Can't think of what else the problem could be.

Eureka...must have been a big airlock...ran all taps through for quite some time while holding down t.he lever on the shower head , then eventually the sink in the head spluttered into life both hot and cold....

Bill, the lever on the tap can also be pulled up perpendicular to the tap, and it should stay in that position. Not sure if you saw that. Also, the hose connecting to the tap is reasonably strong, but I did have the hose to tap (faucet) head come apart on mine. You will get water in the forward bilge if this happens. You can unscrew the end of the tap where the water comes out to clean it. Sometimes water systems get sediment and debris in the screen or tap outlet. You also might look at the owner's manual for treating the fresh water system to clean it or eliminate odor.

Checked the filter at the end, looks totally clean.
Will have a look at sanitising it though , great advice

There are different ideas on winterizing the water system. Each has its merits and risks.
1. Completely draining the system should mean that no water means no broken parts due to freezing. The problem is that you may or may not get rid of all the water in critical areas.
2. Draining the system and blowing it out with compressed air may work, but you still have a potential for water in a low area.
3. Flushing with RV antifreeze, or flushing and draining, may do well at eliminating any pure water areas from freezing. Many people complain about the smell/taste of residual antifreeze the following year.

The owner's manual explains a process of flushing with clear water, then soaking and flushing with a little chlorine bleach in a water solution, and then soaking and flushing with a vinegar and water solution, and finally flushing with clear water. A water purifier chemical can also be added from time to time throughout the season. This can be done anytime and is the main reason I am rambling on about winterizing in the spring.

4. I have also heard of using enough of the cheapest vodka you can find to flush the system. The vodka should not freeze, and won't leave the "antifreeze" taste. Beware that next spring you might have a lot of people showing up with orange juice to "help" you drain the vodka from your water system for cocktails.

I'm lucky in that it NEVER freezes here, so cars (and boats) don't need antifreeze
Adding a water purifier throughout the season sounds a great tip

As for the vodka ... Love that idea !!!
