This summer we got tired of the white factory table and decided to build a new one, while we were at it we also built a side table that has proven to be a great use of space. We put our salads/platters/etc there while we are eating - they don't have to crowd the table or go on the floor any more! It can also serve as an extra kids table, they sit on the cooler. They are both made with burnt ash which has a natural dark colour, so only oil has been applied as a finish. This means fixing scratches and re-coating will be much easier. They held up quite well over the summer, no issues with hot drinks or water condensation. Just some scratches as normal wear and tear.
What I started with

Finished table

Useless pad where the side table will go

New side table (existing exposed holes have not been covered yet)

The side table folds down out of the way

Starboard backer added to cover the holes
