When I took delivery of our new boat I talked to the owner of the marina and we talked about syncing the engines and he said that a customer had machined a plastic piece that went across both shifters. Has anyone tried this? I figured if anyone had that would be on this forum.

Thanks Bill

what kind of shifter do you have? The electronic ones should have mode where they sync automatically.

Hi Bill, I thought about that, but if and when the cables stretch at different lengths/times then you would have to be constantly adjusting them.(please corect me if Im wrong as its a good idea)
The other point to keep in mind, it would need to be quick release, when using one in reverse ect.

jrcinnh, I was told it is manually synced on the V288.

kinkster, I am not sure about the stretching, but right now they work out exactly the same.

over time they will no longer work at exactly the same. One cable or the other will slightly stretch more then the other.

I agree, my boat is ony two weeks old and I have just ticked up 18 hours and had the first service, but before the service they were already out of synch. Its OK now (they have been readjusted)but given a short amount of time, I think they will do the same.
cheers Robbi

Mine aren't exactly the same. I don't much worry about it. Between the differences in the cables, the slight difference in the trim of each outdrive, I sync by ear. I've run the boat enough to be able to tell exactly when the engines are in sync and rarely look at the gauge to get them in sync.

My shifters haven't been lined up since new and I just thought that was normal.
I do the same as jvalich and sync by ear... with the occasional glance at the gauge. :)
