Barracuda, I don't mean to state the obvious here, but are you sure your outdrive is all the way down? I mention this because the 1st yr I owned my Vista, I discovered the trim guage was not accurate, and had to adjust the calibration on the sending unit.

Check it by ear, and while you are in Neutral, raise the drive about 1/8 of the way on the guage, and then lower it until you hear a noticible change in the sound. That should be the point that your drive is all the way down. Check the guage to see that it is reading all the way down also. Regardless of what the guage shows at that point, put it in gear and see if it planes any faster. If so, then the drive was not all the way down, and you will have to adjust your guage.

Just a thought.
Good Luck,
Jim.

Did you ever find out what is happening? I have the same problem with my 1988 245 vista.

Hmmm, my 99 258 Vista has the 5.7gs (carbed) engine with the duo-props and 1.95 drive ratio. I get on plane so quickly its sick. That thing pops right up on plane. Thats with me and my first mate, cooler, dog, etc...

I had 4 guests on the boat about 2 weeks and it planed maybbee 2 seconds longer than usual. But generally it pops on plane in less than 10 seconds. I love the duo props! Will never go back to single.

Amen brotha! Sure it don't pop up as fast as my 496 Magnum in my 230SX did.. But for a small block, and for a boat that weighs a good 4000lbs more than my last one.. It planes FAST.

Mine too planes out great. Better than my 238 with SX/350

MNine also Is a 1999 efi/dp. I am utterly amazed as to how sporty this boat actually feels. I think this boat feels more agile than my 238 also.

On a side note, my sunsation took forever to plane, longer than my 258, but that was due to high pitched prop, for cruise and top end!!!!! I do miss going fast!

My new 2007 leftover purchased this year had the same problem. 5.0 volvo, switched props from F3 to F2. Big Difference. Before the switch with four people onboard the boat would not get out of it's own way.Now with Two onboard I can get on plane in about 7sec. with a top speed of about 30 on the Chesapeake Bay.

After reading all the posts, there are some great suggestions here, but the one that seems to be predominant is to try another prop.

Now one thing with all manufacturers is they spec props for a boat with minimal load (1 or 2 people), minimal fuel (1/8th tank) and no "extra" gear. This way they can advertise higher speeds at WOT and quicker times to plane as well as better fuel consumption numbers.

For example, FW advertises my 06 Vista 318 with twin 5.0 MPI's, as burning 19 GPH at 3500 with a speed of 30 MPH! Ha ha ha...

My actual numbers are 21GPH at 3500 RPM and 25-28 MPH depending on conditions.

So as you can see there are many factors that will cause your boat to come onto plane slower, but the BEST fix is a prop swap.

Especially if your typical day on the water includes 5-7 people + gear + fuel etc etc..

I agree w/ pwrplay. As I stated earlier, see what you can do about trying another set of props. The F3 swap has solved my issues. Maybe your local dealer has a set to try for an afternoon.
