The water in the tank isn't that bad. The key is to keep using it. Most of us work to conserve water on our boats and consequently the water in the tanks start getting a bit rancid. If we are going out for a day trip, we use it as much as possible by flushing the head, washing the dishes and replacing the ice in the ice maker as it tends to form a big block after opening and closing the door all day in the summer heat. When at the dock for the night, instead of hooking up to the dock/city water, use the tank water for taking a shower and instead of a sea shower, just let it run and fill the tank in the morning. Also, as Better Luck said, Clorox works wonders as do those little purifer tablets.
