I just noticed this question posted on the Boat U.S. forum...
Quote:
Does anyone have any information regarding the 2001 Four Winns Vista 298? I found a review that said that the 298 was unstable in rough waters beccuase of its girth.

If anyone wants to have at it you'll find the post here.

Hi--I have talked to a few folks with 298's. Didn't hear any complaints about stability in rough waters, but have heard that 298 tends to give a wetter ride when the chop kicks up. All boats are trade-offs--288 which I have--little less room down below, no side decks, but gives me a fairly dry ride. 298 has the side decks. If you are looking to buy-figure out what your priorities are and go accordingly. 298 is a mighty nice boat down below.
Regards,
Mike

Since I boat in a lake, I cannot attest to rough ocean seas but I do find the 298 unstable when barely maintaining a plane at lower rpms. Other than that, the 10' 6" beam seems to hold it's own.
