does anyone run a generator on the swin deck while underway? any co concerns for the people in the back?

Besides the usual arguments against use of a portable genset (searches for 10 foot pole), how are you planning to safely secure it?

There are people here who do run the portable generator underway, they usually install a set of small pop up cleats and use a nylon strap to secure the generator to the swim platform. If you are going to use a non marine, portable generator you must have lots of common sense and take lots of precautions.

Carbon Monoxide is slightly lighter than air, so a breeze will move CO around. While underway, if the canvas is up, the windsheild must be open to create flow through ventilation in the cockpit area, or else you risk the "Station Wagon" effect and CO can be back drafted into the cockpit.

No concerns! What it the difference between exhaust from the boat engine coming from the outdrive vs a small gen set on the swim deck?

Once to beach campspot, I usually move gen set to beach, just to move the noise and vibration away, for ultimate solitude on the boat!

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Honda EU2000i and now I see Yamaha has just released the EF2000iS which seems to have the same specs except that (according to their website) it is smaller, lighter, and quieter. I know many swear by Honda, but I am wondering if I should be safe and go with the tried and true Honda or try the Yamaha. Not that appearances should matter much, but IMO the Yamaha looks cooler!
Bottom line is that I need something that will run the AC in the heat of the summer for the Admiral and the newborn while me and the kids play.
Decisions, decisions!!!

If you mean this one, then the price point is good. If it is smaller AND quieter - there might be a winner!

Yamaha is just as good as Honda if you go spec for spec.

That's the one. Wise has it for $20 more than the Honda. I emailed them for input and was advised that the Honda is their best seller and the most dependable generator based on their experience. I tend to trust experience and since the Yamaha just came out this month, I'd hate to be the one who discovers the flaws. But I do like the look!

I am a HUGE Honda Fan, but Yamaha makes a good generator as well, I don't think you could go wrong with it. Is it really quieter than a honda, I doubt it. I like blue over red as well. But I have a Honda EU2000, starts 1st pull every time, we use it on the boat, camping in the mountains to power our 5th, and have used to power furnace and TV at home during power outages.

I can tell you enough good about it, we get approx 12 hour run time on 1 gallon of gas, its only 47 lbs, not much bigger than my igloo lunch box, very easy to handle, and very quiet.
