It will plane, but will have to use the tabs. When we travel with two peeps, two small dogs, full fuel, water and all the goodies, we need to tab to get her up. Once up she does well. Not going to set any speed records. We ususally run around 22-26 knots. Decent fuel burn and pretty comfy in 1-2 chop

What elevation will you be using?

What gear ratio is the out drive?

What pitch props?

Which 5.0L motor, carb? or Fuel injected? This will affect horse power and over all performance.

Exactly how much is the 'usual amount of gear'. I think we all load our boats differently, my wife thinks we need to pack everything!! Just adds weight and slows us down.

This is a hard question to answer when you have not provided enough info. I can tell you that our 248 w/5.7L GSI (fuel injected) 280 HP, 1.95 gear ratio, with F3 props at 6500', full fuel tank and 5 adults, takes a little effort to get on plane (out drive, and tabs down). Once up on plane she does very well.
IMHO the 248, really needs the 8.1L to perform, but just to cruise the 5.7L does OK.

elevation isnt an issue..700 feet half fuel and half water...and if your married the usual stuff..is everything. i havnt checked the gear ratio yet or the prop pitch but its a 5.0 gi dp with throttle body injection..does that sound right i hard a hard time finding info on the gi, the info that came with the boat didnt give me much to go on.

Just guessing, but at that elevation and if you have the right pitch props you may not have any issues with 5 adults aboard. Just remember when you take guests out for a cruise, try to load boat as light as possible.

I sure hope with 2-3 hotties you wouldn't have issues getting it up  now as for the buddy or two well....

I have the 5.0Gxi (a bit more HP), w/ stainless dual F3s. With full fuel, water, and five people I can get on plane but it will take a while. An if the bay/ocean is not smoothe trim tabs are non negotiable.

Have fun with it!
