How many parts have you had to order for this boat was is supposed to be in very good shape?

Bwahahaahhaaahahaaaa! Oh, wait, you're not serious, are you?

Even a brand new boat is a pain in the ass full of unexpected expenses. Yeah, punch lists are great and dealers are supposed to address the many issues. But realistically when you want to actually USE the boat you're often better off spending your own money. Instead of having it sit for weeks on end at the dealer wait for 'free' warranty work to get done.

Ah, the joys of boat ownership!

I'd be a little disappointed in your surveyor if he overlooked those facts.

Btw, just wanted to stress how important it is to have that genny looked at by a mechanic. From what you described to me regarding the white smoke and also the exhaust deposits that could be a dangerous source of CO especially from one that is not already Low CO. Most of the time you read these CO related deaths (home or elsewhere) are the result of poorly maintained or running equipment rather than operator error.

The surveyor didn't overlook them. Miranda found the DVD player, and I found the trim tabs. I didn't investigate further while we were on the boat like I should have. We had to try and entertain Devin during the survey, what fun that was! I just put down that they weren't working and I needed some $$$ to fix.

I just put new plugs in the genset, I put a post on CSR to get opinions from guys who have a 5E on them.

Amen to that! In the end, we will have less than a grand in incidentals and other small accessories we bought for the boat. All done by me, and I'm sure a lot less than a bunch of new boats also.

From the day we took delivery of our boat the catch was never installed correctly; so it has never worked properly. I have looked in the manual but have not found a sketch showing how the lock is to be properly installed. Because of this I too have just tightened the clutch thinking it was a poor design. My plan was to use a small cable with a clip to secure it but I would rather get the swing door to work. Does anyone have a photo of this installed in the lock position correctly that they could post? I gather by the thread that it needs to be removed to actually drop the anchor because it is designed to not swing in the forward direction deploying the anchor. If this is true it makes the helm controls useless except for retrieval.

My boat has the pin still, but it comes all as one unit. It is being drop shipped from FW direct to me. The pin is to big to go through a link of my 1/4" G4 chain. Right now all the weight is on the windlass clutch, which some forum members use solely.

I bought a hold over brand new 2004 2 yrs ago. The boat I owned for twelve years did not have an anchor well on the bow. So having it up front was new to me.
With 20 hrs on the boat. I got up on plain with a moderate chop, when I herd the chain going out, I threw it in neutral. I stopped and pulled up the anchor. When I started out again I had a serious vibration. The anchor went through the props.
Four Winn's warranty dept never heard of the anchor dropping before in his thirty years of boating, but gave me two props at "cost" $400 each.

I found when you hit chop the anchor starts to float and when it does that the dog latch can flop up and when gravity kicks in again down it goes.

I went on a boating trip out in Ohio with some friends, all three couples had there anchor come loose and drop. I looked at a lot of boats in the Marina's. 95% had windless and lanyards to keep the anchor on board . My 248 does not have a windless just the chain stop. And I can see why a couple of other posts have them "on the boat somewhere" because they also do not have a lanyard on them so if you pull the pin the pieces fall into the drink!!! After getting tired of looking at the "Clampit wagon" looking ratchet strap setup I had to make sure it didn't happen again I bought some 1/8" SS aircraft cable and made a lanyard with a carabineer and looped it all together so it will not look like a shiny lure going to the bottom if you pull the pin.

No where in the Four Winn's Manual does it explain any of this.

I am a Virgin poster, never did it before so forgive me if this does not look right.
thanks

Can anyone take a picture and post it of their chain stopper? I have mine installed, but when I get the anchor all the way up with the windlass, the chain stopper isn't down all the way and isn't doing anything....
