I njust purchased a 268vista with a toilet that has never been used. It does not have a macerator, but it has a toilet switch in the head(not sure why). I have opened the seacock in the engine compartmet, and have turned the lever on the toilet to wet. However, no water draws into the bowl when I pump the handle. What am I doing wrong?

Try some baby oil in the bowl. The seal has probably dryed out a bit and isn't getting the suction. I had the same problem and the oil works. I did buy the toilet lubricate after that and have been using that ever so often. It does take a few seconds to get it going but it will.

Add some water with that in the bowl.

The boat is pre-wired for a macerator. With your configuration the switch does nothing other than light up. You may need to rebuild the pump if the other suggestions do not work. A whole new pump assembly can be had for less than $100 if you are not inclined to do a rebuild. Get used to it, these toilets need attention about once a year.

someone here on the board contacted Jabsco direct, they sent out the rebuild kit free. Kit is only a couple o-rings and flapper valves.

I installed an entire new toilet about a year ago, it is having a hard time pumping water, time for maint/rebuild.

I hope I never have to tear my $hitter apart. I think I'd rather pay someone to do that.

It just isn't right.

The worst part is when you pull out the joker valve and all the water held in your discharge hose dumps out. Make sure you pump fresh water many many times before you start your rebuild. Also have lots of latex gloves handy. These are good for pump outs as well.

Besides you have not truly bonded with your boat until you have rebuilt the crapper.

latex gloves????? You can not bond with your boat without getting your hands dirty!

I find it very odd that some guys at the RV dump/boat pump out are afraid to touch anything. If your not willing to get hands dirty, maybe you shouldn't have or use a boat/RV!!!

When I say get dirty, that is with common sense. Use facilities and wash hands when done.

I waited at an RV dump while some guy had to put on a suit of some sort and arm length gloves to dump his camp trailer, he took a 5-10 min job and made it last over 45 min. :x :x

Below is a post from another thread describing how to prime the head, it's almost a normal thing for us. You may need to replace the "top valve gasket" which is the part that keeps you from sucking in air instead of water. We have a 2005 268 and are on our 3rd of these.

This is a normal thing on our boat, I rebuilt it and it maybe helped for a little while, but still have to prime it from time to time. Do this: Where you have the "wet" and empty switch you are talking about, pull the top tube off. It's about a 1 inch tube and should slide right off. Then work the pump in the "wet" mode. While you do this cover the male end you took the hose off of with your hand when you do the down motion (I believe, possibly could be up motion) so you create a vacuum. You will feel it sucking and after about 3 or 4 pumps, water will come out that end when you remove your hand. Put the hose back on, few more pumps to get water in the system and you are done. Quick and easy.

I think in the process of not using it a lot and pulling the boat out of the water it gets air locked.

Make sure your main shut off valve at the hull is open of course.
