Hi guys I have posted under " Buying a 2005 348 " looks like we did the deal my only problem is I thought and was told the boat had 5.7 GXI we did the survey and the boat is real clean. Found out the boat has 5.7 GI. My question can anyone tell me how she will handle with 280 HP compaired to the 320 HP. I really like the boat but will pull the deal if it is that under powered.
Thanks in advance.
Terry

If you haven't discovered it yet, the fast facts (performance numbers, specs etc.) on the boat can be found here.
This is obviously where a sea trial comes in very handy but as I understand it, that's not a possibility here. And this is a tricky one. I would imagine that the Gi power performance with the 260hp i/o engines would be similar to what those of us with the GXi (320hp) inboards experience. Do I feel my boat is underpowered? No. Is it just on the cusp of being underpowered? Yes. I am very satisfied with how my engines perform but would not want an ounce of power less.

I don't believe we have anyone with that configuration on the board. Perhaps one of the fine member dealers could offer some unbiased perspective? Twin City Bryan, you out there?

Called the dealer who sold the boat new he tells me all his 348's were brought in with 5.7 GI 280. he tells me there has been no problem with power and the same engine today is a 300 hp with no changes. Need to keep in mind he did not sell me the boat so he has nothing to gain on the upsell.
Thanks for chiming in hopefully someone else will give there mind as well. This boat will be fresh water run, would that make more of a HP demand?

The 5.7 Gi 280hp motor has always been considered a 'sleeper'. Basically, it was a VERY strong 280hp motor. They bumped it to 300, but really didn't change much of anything in recent years.

From what I understand, the GXi is essentially the same motor with a different cam and some fuel tuning. GXi's also have the ACPS (active corrosion protection system) from the factory. Other than that, they are essentially the same as the GI's. The 5.7 GXi has been considered a 'weak' 320hp since most of that power comes at the upper RPM range thanks to the cam job.

You'll be fine with the Gi's. THey will move that boat just fine. You don't need the ACPS since you probably have galvonic isolation on the boat already...

Don't fret it... maybe drop your offer a bit and see if they bite because you were expecting GXi's. Those commanded a couple thousand (2ish) premium I think. Maybe knock 2500 off your offer and see what happens...

Thanks a bunch, that is what 2 non selling dealers have told me. Good to hear sounds like we are part of the Four Winns family. But I will make sure he makes the deal just a little bit more right.
Thanks again guys..
