OK guys, what am I missing.

Going through my wiring and diagrams in search of electrical gremlins. dkelly and I seem to be chasing the same. HOUSE BATTERY DRAINING thread covers our problem.

The wire that seems to be causing my problems also supplies power to the first mate module. Where is it, what is it?

The only other wiring going to this unit are, 2-brown / yellow from high level switch. 1-blue, module lights coming from dash lights, 1-black, module ground.

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is in the bottom left part of this picture. Sorry for the size, its from when I bought the boat and the only one I have. I do not use it, so I'd be curious what your fix is, if I can fix it before it becomes an issue.

On my boat that is the "SeaKey."
I don't see anything labeled First Mate Module on my diagrams anywhere? Could it be a brand/product name like Fireboy? I didn't see anything on a quick google search.

I read about it while researching Vistas. It is like GM's Onstar for boats. One of the boat magazines did a review back in 2003 or so.

I seem to remember from a Google search that some owners had problems and disconnected them. Possibly because of draining batteries but my memory is getting sketchy on the details.

We may be on to something here. I was just reading on the SeaKey website that if you activate it and pay the fee they monitor your boat while you are away. They will call you if you get a high water alarm or low voltage. So this leads me to think it must draw power all the time. So I guess the next thing to do is disconnect it and see. Unfortunately I can't get to the boat till at least Saturday.

firecadet:

good catch, the wiring installation in my manual agrees with what I am seeing in my wiring diagrams. Never activated this unit, will look at it in the morning.

dkelly, this may be our gremlin.

Thanks

dkelly, have you considered a solar panel for your house battery?

Sea Key was the culprit, see my recent post about how great this site is.
