 Post subject: Fume Detector in 348

I have a 2006 348 and the gas vapor detector is defective.Myself and three other have crawled around the bilge but we cannot find the sensor.Any ideas on where to look?

wow! the 348 must have a huge bilge area! I have a 268 and cant even get in there on my own,lol! :wink:

My is on the starboard side down near the stringer. It looks like this, but mine was beige not red.

I notice that you have I/O's.I have inboards.Anybody with inboards that has it in a different location?

I believe mine was down in the starboard bilge. It tended to get water on it and went off all the damned time. I disconnected mine. Yeah, I ought to replace it at some point.

Did you disconnect it at the detector or the intrument panel?

IIRC, it was at the panel. I think it was hard-wired at the detector itself. I was tempted to get out the wire cutters...

Getting to the back of the panel is done through the chart plotter. You pop off the faceplate, remove four screws and tilt it outward. This will let you reach behind the whole console. On a 2005 and later 345/358/375.
