Does anydody know if you need to leave a battery on even when hooked to shore power for the frig to run on a 98 vista 238? I just installed a new battery charger and the frig does not function unless I leave a battery on? I do know that on later vista's you can turn batteries off when hooked to shore power and the frig workes fine.

Depends what fridge you have. Some are only 12v. Some are 12v AND 120v. If it's 12v only, it won't work with the battery off. With the battery off, there's a chance the bilge pumps won't operate either, depends how they're wired! There's no reason to turn the battery off when on shore power, they're being charged by the onboard charger anyways. You're paying for the power, use it.

I have a '96 238V with the same fridge--12v/110v......when the shore power is connected and you throw the circuit breaker switch for the fridge, it automatically kicks over to the 110v line, so no, the fridge won't draw any 12v power as long as the breaker switch is thrown.......watch it, though! running the fridge on 12v for a few hours will drain the battery! hope this helps..
