I spent a little time this morning troubleshooting some noise coming from my refrigerator. Upon removal of the fridge I quickly discovered a small cooling fan on the coils that appeared to be seized. I attempted to remove the fan which looks very much like a computer cooling fan. When I removed a few screws it started spinning. I'm pretty sure that this might just be temporary and it will again stop turning. I've done a search and can't see to find much information on repair of this unit. It seems like I should just be able to replace that fan however I can't find the part and secondly am not sure how to get a couple of screws out that hold the fan which is in the lower portion of the coils and blocked by part of the unit. The refrigerator is a Waeco RPD-0065U. Have any of you had refrigerator problems and been able to find parts?

Your fridge uses a Danfoss BD35F compressor, same as my Isotherm fridge and many others. Your cooling fan is part #
071-0500.

Thanks Cap'n! That's exactly what I had been looking for. Now I have to figure out how to get the old one off with the two lower screws located at bottom of the coils. I'll get the parts on order and then spend a little more time figuring out how to get them off.

The fan appears to be a Sunon KD1204PFS2-8 from what I gathered from Capn's links pics....that should be it!

I know our Waeco has one and it runs all the time. I think these units don't work well in hot weather. Maybe a spare for a few bucks is a good idea.

I was talking to Dennis last night and ended up enlarging the picture Capn had linked to and found it new on eBay for 10 bucks.

I'm 99.9% sure my Norcold doesn't have one. I wonder why they switched to Waeco. Is the whole top shelf a freeze or just half of it?

I've got the fan part number written down at home...I will update this thread with it later if Dennis doesn't beat me to it.

+1 on that. The fridge in the cockpit area gets pretty warm inside when it hot out. I haven't pulled to check yet, but I was wondering if the condensor is dirty or it just isn't getting enough air circulation to it. Soon as the sun goes down it gets cold like it is supposed to.

We added an AC fridge to the cockpit this year. It obviously only runs on shore power, but it does keep beverages
cold all day we are away from shore power. We fill it with beverages the night before, then drink them all day and
they are still cold when we return to the slip, with no power to the fridge. $76 for the fridge. We also have an
Isotherm AC/DC fridge in the cabin that rarely runs when away from the slip, it stays real cold.

My Norcold does have a similar 12vDC fan under the condenser.

I stand corrected. Don't think I've ever heard it...only the compressor.

The fan is a SUNON 12V DC FAN 40mm x 40 mm x 10mm KD1204PFS2-8.

I think we need a little clarification here. The fan that Capn linked to is a fan to cool the power module on the Danfoss compressor. That is not the fan that has gone out on my compressor although very similar and possibly the same model. The link is to a fan that cools the power module on these units and is a add on and not standard from the factory. Not a bad idea considering it is recommended under high load conditions and we all put them under that with them in a hot cabin. On top of the ambient temp in the cabin they are enclosed in a small area that is not well vented if they are vented at all. I plan to pull the fan this weekend to be sure of the size and the numbers on the fan however at this point I have not been able to remove the fan. I believe I can with a little more effort but the fan itself is placed between the coils and the lower screws are blocked by what appears to be an inverter module. I'll post the exact model of the fan once I verify it upon removal. The Danfoss compressor appears to be the common in all of these refrigerators.

Between the link that Capn put on here and the ones that Firecadet sent I'm sure the right model is readily available. I suspicious that the seized fan is causing an overload on my system and is the cause of my batteries running down prematurely. I'm anxious to find out and will keep you all posted. I'll see if I can get a pix over the weekend of what I'm talking about.

Well, I'll be pulling the fridge out tomorrow, as it happens, to run a thermostat cable so I'll look again. The fan my mind's eye sees points vertically through the condenser. I can't envision the compressor, though, so you might be right - or there are two. The airspace behind the fridge is pretty large, and it is ventilated on the forward face of the galley, above the V-berth, on my 258 Vista. Report tomorrow.
