Is fiberglass the best way to seal? I can't find a crack, but it has to be there.

Search the forums here for anchor locker leaks. Lots of folks experience this (usually Sundowners) and lots of remedies have been posted. Good luck!

I would use something like 5200 or 4000 fast setting if it small. For bigger cracks, but I don't see it being that big, I would use West System's epoxy and glass cloth.

Finally exposed the full anchor well, removed the anchor chain and rope, pulled the cabin mirror and took a good look. It is highly likely that the anchor well is the source of the leak. The well drains are 2 inches from the bottom. It has not rained in days and yet there is at least 1/2 cup of water still sitting there. The well could hold at least a 1/2 gallon of water before flowing out the drains. Under the bow the rugs are wet. Initially I thought the anchor well was a separate entity, but in the Vista 258 it is V shaped with the widest portion abutting a front non-fiberglass bulkhead (I think it is a big piece of plastic). The seam along the join on both sides is with some sealant that has seen better days. The fiberglass portion of the well appears completely intact, the joins look like they need upgrading. I guess some 3M 5200 will do the job.

Yes Goldfish you were right.
Two questions though:
1-Was there ever some kind of gasket to seal off the anchor well opening so that water does not flow in? It appears the pull for the anchor well hatch has a long stem as if some rubberized gasket was there to "pull up" and seal the anchor hatch so it would not leak into the well. Right now it pours in when there is rain.

2-In my case the fiberglass is intact, but it appears the seal at the bulkhead-anchor well junction is deteriorating. While an epoxy would seal everything I am concerned that at some point that forward bulkhead might need to come out. Would it be best to use a silicone sealant or would you epoxy it?

Thanks

Well, I actually think it is good that rain comes into the anchor well, to wash the anchor and the chain from salt from time to time...
The compartment gets wet anyway, when you are pulling the anchor out of the sea...
The seal is deteriorating, the same problem was in my case too...
I had it epoxied/fiber glass, cause it cannot deteriorate again. And I relly don't see the case when the bulkhead would need to come out...
With sealant, you're never 100% sure, especially here, I have only chain(without rope) and it is pretty rough for the sealant...
