I specifically removed that kind from my 348. The riser tube would get clogged in the waste tank and was usually just plain wrong on the fresh water tank. The kind from Dometic with the floats seems to not have the same problems in either situation. Like this one:

I've got an older version of their control panel. It's a two tank monitor, one for fresh and one for waste all on the same panel. I just left the old 2" Xintex POS in place and put the Sealand one over by the sink. It's easier to see and was a lot easier to install in that location.

I found it useful to wire the gauge to the overhead light switch in the head. That way it's only lit when you've got the light on. Which you'd do when you want to see the gauge. This avoids having it powered and the lights on when you don't need it.

If using the flashlight to sight the level works I will stick with that. I don't mind the extra effort for the once and a while I will need to check. We have a once a week service at the marina so I am not too worried except the seldom occasion when we stay the week. We mostly use the bathrooms at the marina so our head doesn't see much use except out on the water and at night. There is already too many monitoring pieces that could fail I rather not add more if I don't need it.
Thanks for all the info and may still need it if I can't see the level with the flashlight.

That is what came on my V278 and it has worked perfectly. (I always worry it will not).

The Admiral has our berth always made up and we have a 3" memory foam pad on top of the mattresses with a custom made bed spread. She'd throw me overboard if I kept pulling up the mattress to check the waste tank.
